Putting pressure on congressional Democrats to back more exploration for oil, President Bush on Monday lifted an executive ban on offshore drilling that has stood since his father was president. But the move, by itself, will do nothing unless Congress acts as well.
There are two prohibitions on offshore drilling, one imposed by Congress and another by executive order signed by the first President Bush in 1990. The current president, trying to ease market tensions and boost supply, called last month for Congress to lift its prohibition before he did so himself.

"Brownouts" and "Blackouts" are on their way. Supply vs Demand will be the cause of the next major crisis. Remember the key problem of electricity. Electricity is the only power source that cannot be stored. It must be used as it is generated. It must be produced as it is needed !
MTI's Midwest Chapter is excited to announce finalized details for its Annual Fall Golf Outing and Dinner that will include a technical session during dinner that will cover "What You Did Not Know About Quenching, Nitriding, Carburizing, Carbonitriding and Martensite." In today's world of heat treating, it is a huge challenge to keep up with the various specifications, their forms and changes. CQI-9 is one of those specs. To help members comply with the various nuances of CQI-9, MTI will host a full day seminar September 25, 2008 at the Sheraton Cleveland Airport Hotel from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. The seminar will be facilitated by Rand Winters from Rand Winters Group, MTI's endorsed Quality Consultant. The seminar will also feature 3 Associate Members, Conrad-Kacsik, Super Systems and Marathon Monitors, who will lend their expertise during the meeting. The areas of focus will be:
WEEKLY TECH TIP: H 13 Chromium Hot Work Tool Steel
The week's TECH TIP from Pye Metallurgical Consulting focuses on H 13 Chromium Hot Work Tool Steel. The hot work tool steels have the ability to resist softening under hot working conditions and after numerous exposures to elevated operating temperatures such as are experienced by:
·Steel and aluminum forging
·Die-casting dies
·Aluminum extrusion dies
The Hot Work die steels can be categorized into three specific groups and are shown as follows:
It's About Time-NEW Poll Shows Public Favors Oil Drilling
We guess it finally took $4++ gas prices to convince the general public what we already know - tapping oil exploration and a relaxation of the ban on drilling offshore and in Alaska is a greater energy arena priority over energy conservation. The poll by the Pew Research Center shows nearly half of those surveyed - or 47% - now rate expanded oil drilling as the top priority. That compares with 45% of those surveyed who consider energy conservation, in general, more important.
